It seems that we have to wait quite some time for all our belongings that we have shipped from Los Angeles, so this weekend I had to be creative and handy(!), so we can have a "home" while we are waiting...
One of the things that I made this weekend was this dining table inspired by the lovely blog "Helt Enkelt", and I´m very happy with the result. I got exactly the look that I wanted -rustic and cosy!
Here is how our dining table looked like before when we lived in LA.
So what do you think? Have you made any furniture yourself before?

ReplyDeletelovely nina. i too am awaiting some furniture for our new home. for the moment if we want fine dining, it happens on the wooden sledge. if the table takes much longer i may have to build one of these - it would translate nicely into a potting table or a picnic table in my garden! x

Hi,
ReplyDeleteJust saw your table on Apartment Therapy, you absolutely rock, it is a great idea, I love it.

Many tables have tops that can be adjusted to change their position, shape or size, either with foldable extensions or sliding parts that can alter the shape of the top. Some tables are entirely foldable for easy transportation like camping table.
ReplyDeleteI just moved to a new apt and need a dining room table. I think I may try your idea! Thanks!
ReplyDeletecan you share with us the measurement of your table? i'm looking for a dining table on a budget and this one is perfect.

I´m glad you like it :)

Åh, forelskelse!! Jeg har funnet min drømme(interiør)blogg! <3
ReplyDeleteI have looked online for the stain you used. Can you PLEASE provide the source??
ReplyDeleteThank you!
The stain is from Jotun, Lady. ( http://www.jotun.com/www/com/20020113.nsf!OpenDatabase&mt=&l=uk)
ReplyDeletei tried that web site can't find it when i copy and paste into browser. i found the main site but can't find that color match.
ReplyDeleteIt works here, so then I don´t know. They don´t write about all their products and you won´t find the driftwood stain on ther webpage but I thought maybe you could find your nearest dealer and call them and ask about the driftwood stain from Lady, Jotun.
ReplyDeletelove this ! thanks for the tut :)

this is fab-u-lous! thanks for sharing and i hope you don't mind that i posted it on my bloggity blog for DIY day.
ReplyDeletecheers!
The table looks great! We are thinking about building a table like this but are curious how you attached the legs to the table top. Looking at the legs on the site it doesn't look like there are holes for attaching the table legs.
ReplyDeleteany recs on proportions? how long did you make it?
ReplyDeletehow great is this! I think I just found a great idea for my kitchen to come.. I was planning to do something with wood and some legs from IKEA this just made it all falling in place
ReplyDeleteThanks so much.. funny you got the paint idea from Anna Malin I have a mail from her in my save box for a long time with the name of that paint ;) I loved the effect at first site ;)
That really is a lovely table. I wish I could make really fine tables out of scratch as you can! :)
I really like your work.Very informative for the people
ReplyDeleteI love the stain you used on your table. Who makes it?
ReplyDeleteThe drift wood stain is from "Jotun". It´s really wonderful!!
ReplyDeletebrilliant!
ReplyDeleteHei! Superlekkert bord, og AKKURAT sånn jeg har sett etter!! Dette skal jeg lage til uka. Kan du vise bilder av hvordan du har festet bena under bordet? Og hvor tykke planker har du brukt i selve bordplaten??
ReplyDeleteMVH Ina :)
Tusen takk, Ina!

ReplyDeleteHi Nina, I just found your blog and I am in love! This is such an amazing idea and you did it so beautifully. Could you shed a little more detail about how to screw the boards together? I really want to try this out! Thank you
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get teh stain from. I can only find this color in exterior stain? thank you
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing! I was recently inspired to make my own desk. I was thinking of buying those legs and attaching it to a table top I already have. How did you attach the legs to the table top? Are there holes for you to put screws in? Thanks, I really appreciate the help. Love your blog!!
ReplyDeleteHi Wendieee,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. No, I did not attach the table top to the legs. There are no holes in te legs from Ikea.
Good luck!
Nina
Just wonderful! And so simple. Found you on pinterest!

Thanks for this post, I found it linked from AT awhile ago and recently made it. I have to point out a really important modification. The 1x3 (or whatever size) strips you used on the bottom as braces should be standing on their side so the 1 inch side, not the 3 inch side is against the planks. I did this how you pictured and in only a few days the sides of the table started bowing down. Placing the braces vertically as I've suggested fix this - because the braces will not flex as much (think of an 'I-beam') in that direction.
ReplyDeleteAdditionally, I added another set of bracing strips about an inch away so that the top of the leg piece fits snug in there between them so the table top doesnt shift around. I actually also chopped 2 little 1x1 inch wide pieces and put them on the ends between the two strips so it makes a nice little box that the legs fit snugly into.
Minwax has a new stain pretty similiar to the one you used.
Great project!
dining table looks a very gorgeous and attractive in restaurants and royal hotels. this is durable and useful thing for your home. i like the dining table which are shown in the post.
ReplyDeleteThis table is so amazing. It looks simple but very functional.Easy to do and I think that even woman can make it with the help of tutorials.
ReplyDeletegreat blog i a in australia and wondering where to get the driftwood stain from?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: I have no idea I´m afraid. It´s a grey stain. You should ask someone who sell paint.
ReplyDeleteNina
I don't see the finished table?
ReplyDeleteIt´s in the last picture :) See the table here as well: http://stylizimo.com/albums/photo/view/album_id/444/photo_id/2347

me again from Australia. do you know what sort of timber it is? thanks
ReplyDeleteIs lady the brand of the stain? cant quite read it in the photo. i keep looking at tables and this is just so perfect. Love it :)
Those furniture are simply amazing. I love the simplicity of the design. It makes more space as well. The table on the last picture looks stunning. The simplicity adds elegance to it.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the tutorial... im wondering if i can apply this to other kinds of furniture... i love to revive old furniture... i wanna try it..
ReplyDeleteWhen buying dining room table and chairs, it is important not to settle for the first offer you get and to bargain until the last minute. In most houses, dining room tables and chairs are the most important pieces of furniture and as such, choosing the right set is very important.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the previous comment. Dining table is where the family gathers together. It is one of the best places for the members of the family to talk with each other while relishing the food. Thus, it is good to make an essential decision in choosing the best and the right dining table for you.
ReplyDeleteThe tip on using sand papers to remove sharp edges is very useful. Furniture made up of wood should be cleaned to prevent cuts and other minor injuries caused by sharp edges. I love the color of your dining table. It is indeed rustic and cosy. Not only that, it's classy as well. I look forward to learning more furniture and styling tips from you.
ReplyDeleteWonderful job - I am saying it always: women can be so creative! The table looks fantastic!!!
ReplyDeletelovely, you are a very good artist!
ReplyDeleteThis is truly creative, awe-inspiring, and simply magnificent. I could think of many other words to describe what you did for that dining table.
ReplyDeleteDet bordet er så utrolig stilig! Tenkte å lage et liknende et selv.. Men hvordan festet du bordplata til bukkene? Synes det er litt risky å skulle bare la den hvile oppå..
ReplyDeleteHilsen Line :)
I made this table yesterday. I used dark stain on pine. It's my new computer table and it looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this!!!! I was just talking to my hubby about how I wanted to have him make a new dining table...this looks amazing! Thanks for the tutorial!
ReplyDeleteSimplicity at it's best! Your dining table and chairs will surely blend perfectly on the color of your walls.
ReplyDeleteNice log and nice commenting gather here but i am looking for some latest
ReplyDeleteMatbord design
Draw out a scaled plan of the dining room size, the position of the doors and windows and other furniture on paper. This will help determine the size of the dining table you should purchase.
ReplyDeleteSo since there ins't any screw holes or any real way to attach the legs to the table top, how do you make it stay? If you bump into it, will it fall off? I really want to make this desk but not if it's not sturdy enough to handle simple bumps and pushes. I'm kind of clumsy and my desk will take some abuse.
ReplyDeleteIf you have used heavy enough boards it should be a problem. But you can attach a metal strip with holes in to screw it to the boards if you like... Difficult to describe in words(and English :))..
DeleteI don't think I can make own dining table like this. Thanks for this wonderful, this may be possible now.
ReplyDeleteWomen always have great ideas, Really very Amazing dining table
ReplyDeletethank you for this tutorial! i made the table last week and absolutely LOVE it! we're picking up chairs in a few days and i can't wait for our first meal :)
ReplyDeletedid you attach the legs to the table? how did you do it? there aren't holes in the legs to do so, so i wasn't sure if i need to drill through them or not. thanks in advance.
You are welcome! I´m so glad you like it :)
DeleteNo, I did not attach the legs to the table since there is no holes in the legs. But it may be possible if you use some kind of "metal strip" with holes in( you know what I mean?)It´s safer with kids.
Enjoy!
Nina x
This looks soooooo amazing, thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteWow I am so inspired by this easy DIY dining table. So chic and no one would know you didn't spend a fortune on it!
ReplyDeleteYou make it sound so easy! I've been trying to figure out how I can build a table that is the specific (unique) size that I need, and this is perfect. Thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeleteThe chairs you use will further dress your table up or down, so include this in your research and shopping before you make a final table purchase.

ReplyDeleteChoosing a dining table goes beyond simple aesthetics. Its location determines its style and materials. In kitchens, a hard-wearing solid wood top is crucial.
ReplyDeleteI am happy to find your distinguished way of writing the post. Now you make it easy for me to understand and implement the concept. Thank you for the post.
