DIY: Headboard!

When I showed you the pallet ideas yesterday, I also promised you that I would show you what I have used my pallets for. So without further introduction - meet our new headboard!

I´m actually quite pleased with the result, but I´m not sure if I should paint them or not. What do you think? I´m thinking either black or white. I kind of like this natural color as well....

So what do you think? You can see more photos of our bedroom on Stylizimo.com.
Wish you all a wonderful day! Here in Oslo it's snowing A LOT at the moment, so it seems that we have to wait a bit longer for spring.

  7. I am absolutely sure that my son would love this idea.

I could very well imagine an open house, which has elements of Euro pallets and bung wood. That in combination with concrete floors and large windows...

    Big hugs

  9. Superstilig!

    Takk for fiiine tilbakemeldinger! <3

  11. I love it like that! I think painting it would give a whole different look that would lose the beauty of the palette.

  16. I love it! Everything looks great. I love the idea for your jewelry!

  20. Please! Please! Paaaaaaallllleze do not paint the pallets. It's absolutely stunning in it's natural state! Paint will totally transform the aesthetic & it may not appear as beautiful as it already is. You stated, "I´m actually quite pleased with the result" -- which is a strong indication that you need NOT tamper with this masterpiece lol.

Thank you all for your feedback - it seems that everyone wants me to keep the nature color so I will for now :)

  31. Omigosh! I love what you've done with the pallet. It looks perfect as your headboard...already loving the color, so I don't know if it needs to be painted. You should probably leave it alone for now and paint it when you get tired of it.

Tusen takk for hyggelig kommentar <3

  51. Wow that is a very interesting idea! I think I like it! I've been thinking about what to do for a headboard (and a bedframe). Maybe I'll try something like this.

  52. I love how the room is styled and the headboard just adds to it! If you don't mind my asking, where did you get the bedside lamp? I'd love to use it on my piano...

  53. I love the idea of repurposing pallets. I'll be posting this on my blog soon along with other ideas for reusing pallets.

  54. I LOVE anything rustic, especially raw wood: crates, pallettes, etc! The hubby and I don't have a headboard at the moment and I think this would be the perfect way to tie the room together! Thanks for your awesome ideas and I love your blog.

  55. Hey, can you tell me how you did this pleeeeeease??? I am in love!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I am curious how you have liked having the pallets behind your bed now that it has been a few months- My worry is that the splinters would start to wreck your pillows and top of the sheets...

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hello Melissa! I haven´t had any problems since I added the pallets. No damage on either pillows or sheets, so I have to say that I´m happy with the headboard :)

Anonymous: Well....I did´t do much. I just placed two worn pallets (I washed them in the shower!) behind the bed. Very easy :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Wow! I can't believe how beautiful your pallets are without doing anything to them but washing!
The ones sitting in my garage have random nails coming out in all directions, broken pieces of wood and paint. I'll have to do some work on mine!
Thanks so much for this post - its my inspiration!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I would absolutely love to duplicate this but am concerned about the cleanliness of the pallet. Did you treat the pallet before putting it in your room? Did you have any of the same concerns? Thank you!

Takk for tips!

  61. Most pallets found are treated with chemicals with formaldehyde and other toxic chemicals. Please look to see if yours was stamped as untreated or reconsider this pallet as your headboard.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I've always loved the ideas of using palettes, I'm still a bit freaked out by the bugs and splinters though. How do you make sure that there are no freaky insects hiding inside it?

    ReplyDelete
  63. i think black would be the best, as most of the color in that room is white, so coloring the pallet black would make wonders.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Wow I had a very similar idea but I stained my pallets. I'm just trying to figure out how to hang them or attach them to my frame. Ideas?

    ReplyDelete
  65. I've been obsessed with repurposing shipping pallets for some time. I'm always amazed to see what other people come up with and how easy the ideas are to implement. I'm even more impressed with the incredible style accomplished from an item that potentially would have been destroyed or scraped. The right colors and accessories make that pallet and room look casually sophisticated and classy! Well done.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I love the natural color.
You're lucky as the pallets that I've found don't have that grey natural tones. Usually, they are more yellow. So they'll definitely need white paint. But not yours I think.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I love it! Made a coffee table out of a palette last summer :)

  68. I love the natural look! Excellent way to reuse a pallet!

  70. Hi!
These headboards are awesome. I also found wide range of new headboards on cheap prices at http://www.dreambedroom.co.uk/compare_headboards.html

  71. Love the idea! Where did you find your pallet? I'm not too keen on buying one off of industrial companies. I wonder if we can buy brand new ones from somewhere?

    ReplyDelete
  72. very nice! i wont do this...but i'm a question: that, can i use all the pallets? because i'm a pallet that there is write "italc 27 m"...it'chimically?or term?

    ReplyDelete
  73. How did you make this? Did you just attach it to the bed or did you attach it to the wall?

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Oh wow love this, we end up with so many of these had been trying to think of things to do with them as the boys usually just end up burning them and thought it was such a waste!!!! can't say I would have thought of this but I love the look
