A lot of you asked me about our
white painted parquet in the living room after I showed you some pictures yesterday, and instead of answering everyone of you I thought I could write about how I did it here...
First, I repaired the floor with a light sanding. Whether your wood floor is stained or previously painted, use sandpaper to lightly go over the finish so that the floor will accept the paint. Use a fine-grit paper for this process. I used nr. 180.
Then I vacuumed the floor before I washed it with a blend of ammonia and water. It´s important to remove all dirt, dust and oil before you start painting.
When the floor was completely dry, I started using a brush on the outer edges of the floor. Afterwards I used a roller attached to a painting pole and painted the rest of the floor. I painted 3 coats on our floor, but this will vary from floor to floor and from paint to paint.
The paint I used was a water-based paint called
"Trestjerner". After doing a lot of research on what other have used and what they recommended on the "paint-shop", I was quite happy with this one - it was very easy to work with. I have actually started to paint a laminate floor out in the hallway with the same paint, as they say that you can paint them as well. I have 2 coats left, but I will tell you how it worked out when I´m done.
The color I used is called "White" and it´s only available in semi-gloss(40) I think. Anyway, that was the gloss on the paint I bought.
I hope this answered some of the questions that you had, but remember that this is only the description on how
I did it. I´m just an amateur and this was the first time I painted a floor, so please talk to your local paint shop and ask for help. We have different kinds of painting from country to country, and there are probably different directions on how you should do it as well.
Good luck to all of you that are going to paint the floors - It WILL look amazing!!
Thank you so much for all of your comments on my last post - I´m glad you like our new WHITE living room. If you want to see more pictures, I have uploaded some on Stylizimo.com as well...
